A small company with one idea about home repair
Handigram is an introduction service: you post a job, one contractor takes it, and you deal with each other directly. That is the whole product, and keeping it that small is deliberate.
Why it works this way
The usual arrangement sells your phone number to four contractors and lets them race you for it. You get four calls; three of them wasted their money and yours. The contractor pays whether or not they win, so their price has to cover the leads they lost — which means you pay for them too, further down.
So we did the opposite. A contractor sees the job before paying anything, pays only if they take it, and once they do, the job closes. One accept, one fee, one phone call. It is a smaller business than selling the same lead four times, and it is the only version where nobody has to be annoyed for it to work.
What we learned the expensive way
An earlier version of this held the money: customers funded jobs up front and we released payment when work was done. We built it, took it to contractors and landlords, and they told us plainly that they did not want it. Contractors already have ways to get paid and did not want a platform between them and their customer; landlords did not want to pre-fund work they had not seen.
We retired it and started again. That is why you pay only for a job you took, and why we never touch the price of the work — not because it is clever, but because the version where we did was the version nobody wanted.
Where we are today
Early, and honest about it. Coverage is thin in most places, and we would rather tell you that on the page where you post than let you wait fourteen days to find out. If nobody in your area has signed up yet, that is the answer we will give you.
Questions are welcome.
Including the awkward ones. If something here does not add up, we would rather hear it from you than not hear it.
